Orvalle . . . I’m Sorry! By Michael C. McCormick I knew this kid named Orvalle when I was in high school. He wasn’t popular at all; he was treated like a fool. Jocks picked on him and girls would laugh whenever he came around. He never did fight back, and, in fact, he rarely made a sound. I saw the sadness in Orvalle’s eyes when I passed him in the halls. I knew that I should be his friend but I didn’t have the balls. So, I gave a smile and said, “Hello”, and thought, “I’ve done my part.” But that did nothing to raise esteem or heal his broken heart. He hated life and saw no hope of ever finding good, in anything or anyone, or even that he could find the kind of happiness that most people seemed to know; so he resigned himself to believing he was the lowest of the low. At that same time I came to know the God who heals and saves, who by His son Jesus’ death makes princes out of slaves. By forgiving everything I’d done and putting joy into my heart, He lovingly accepted me and gave me a brand new start. But, I was still so selfish and I couldn’t really tell, that this same God I knew could help Orvalle as well. Then one day I got the news that cut me like a knife: Orvalle gave up all hope and destroyed his very life! “I knew that you could heal and save, I knew you as “I AM”, I’m sorry, my Lord, that I let Orvalle jump off Friant Dam?!” The End Based on the true story of Orvalle Baker and how I waited until it was too late . . .
